Transforming Touch is an attachment-focused modality utilizing hands-on treatment of Developmental or Trauma. It focuses on understanding the effects that Developmental Trauma has on the child, as well as the developing adult. This opens the door to working in the area of early, nonverbal trauma. By understanding the neurochemistry of early trauma, and rebuilding developmental platforms through regulation, clients begin to move from a high-cost-of-doing-business (chronically stressed) system to a smoother and less stress-oriented system and begin to live with greater ease and choice in life.
TOUCH-BASED SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®
Trauma can begin as acute stress from a perceived life-threat or as the end product of accumulated stress. Both types of stress can seriously impair your ability to function with resilience and ease. Trauma can result from a wide variety of stressors such as accidents, invasive medical procedures, sexual or physical assault, emotional abuse, neglect, war, natural disasters, loss, birth trauma, or the corrosive stressors of ongoing fear and conflict.
The Somatic Experiencing approach offers a framework to assess where you are “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states. It facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in your body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is approached by titration; slowly and gently guiding you to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.

Esalen Massage applies principles of mindfulness to bodywork, offering up a holistic body-mind-spirit experience on the massage table. Through slow and rhythmic strokes, the practitioner evokes awareness, a sensory “coming home.” The practitioner follows rather than leads, and adds deeper detail work to untangle stressed muscles, integrating each release into the surrounding tissue and the whole body. Assisted movement or stretches can be applied to free up old holding patterns, and frequent pauses give time for assimilation, energetic re-balance, and a sense of well-being. All Esalen Massage sessions strive to empower you to regain a sense of harmony and to awaken inner resources for healing.
